Moscow Apartment

from Vancouver, BC

Carpooling to choir practice is a good way to start up an indie folk-rock band. Just ask Brighid Fry and Pascale Padilla. That’s how they met when they were little kids. Older now but not by much, still teenagers, they formed a band called Moscow Apartment because, well, they flipped through a book of photos and there it was. The name may be a bit random but their talent is deliberately mature-for-their-age and exquisite, and has already gained them critical praise along with hometown indie and national folk awards (Canadian Folk Music Award, Young Performer of the Year, 2017). Their music is driven by sibling-like harmonies, acoustic shimmer and electric crunch with indie pop hooks tossed in for good measure. Fry and Padilla are multi-instrumentalist singer songwriters who wear their influences on their sleeves - Lorde, Feist, Metric, Joni Mitchell plus a bunch of indie folk pop bands their parents have probably never heard of. Moscow Apartment songs are kind of kind of quirky, kind of playful with lots of clever wordplay. They say, “our songs all sound quite different, but they all sound like us.” Moscow Apartment easily slips and shifts from genre to genre to create their own distinctive variety of indie folk rock.
