First light, first breath, first note – Calgary singer songwriter Jolene Marie’s music falls into step with timelessness. Her voice glides over ethereal, quixotic melodies unearthing vignettes that come and go like billboards on a highway, giving you glimpses into what might have been or might become and the longing to experience both. Marie’s self-recorded debut Good Morning, I Love You was released in 2019 as Teal Amour; her captivating EP, Honey, was released under her own name in 2023. Both offerings showcase matters of choice – production, arrangements, musicians – that belie Marie’s short time releasing music. And as much as the music is cotton candy soft and dreamy, there are some sweet sharp barbs hidden in her lyrics wrapped within.
